A Fairfax woman was charged with her first OWI and with drug possession charges after a traffic violation.
Police say 26-year-old Madison Remington of Railroad Street was stopped as she was heading north on Ranshaw Way in North Liberty Thursday night after failing to dim her lights. Upon contact, the odor of ingested alcohol was allegedly coming from her person, and her eyes were bloodshot and watery. She reportedly slurred her speech when interacting with officers.
A pack of cigarettes was in plain view of the officers, and there was allegedly a small corner tear that had a white powdery substance that was believed to be cocaine.
A check of Remington’s driving record showed her status to be barred.
She was charged with OWI, a Controlled Substance violation, and Driving While Barred. If convicted on all charges, Remington could face a prison term of up to four years.
