A passenger in a car hit by a train in Wapello County has been airlifted to University of Iowa Health Care in Iowa City.
The Iowa State Patrol reports 57-year-old Juan Juarez of Hope Mills, North Carolina was driving a 2004 Buick Park Avenue southbound on 215th Street west of Ottumwa when he failed to yield at a railroad crossing. The vehicle was struck by an oncoming train, and the passenger in the Buick…57-year-old Maria Juarez…was injured. She was airlifted to UIHC on Hawkins Drive. Her condition has not been released.
Juan Juarez and a back seat passenger were uninjured.
