The Community Crisis Services and Food Bank is calling on area residents to help with a pressing need.

In a release from the organization, the current Mobile Pantry truck is aging and unreliable, breaking down frequently and putting essential food deliveries in jeopardy. To meet growing demand and ensure consistent service, CommUnity wants to raise $175,000 by the end of the month to purchase a new, specialized Mobile Pantry vehicle. The Mobile Pantry sees about 2,000 visits for food annually, and the need only continues to rise. This specialized vehicle will save significant staff time in setup and teardown, ultimately allowing staff and volunteers to dedicate more time to launching new sites and filling the hunger gap in our community.

Thanks to a matching grant from the Community Foundation of Johnson County and individual donors, the local nonprofit has received over $122,000 toward the goal. Now, just about $53.000 more is needed to ensure that the Mobile Pantry program continues and expands to meet the need.

The new truck will include refrigeration for perishable items, greater storage capacity, and improved accessibility, allowing CommUnity to serve more neighbors more frequently and more effectively.
