An Iowa City man faces jail time after a traffic stop found him in possession of marijuana and a bong.
At approximately 11:24pm Tuesday, a Johnson County Sheriff’s deputy stopped 21-year-old Oscar Batten of Cedar Street on Brady Street in Hills for operating his vehicle without headlights deployed.
A search of the vehicle was executed, and a bong was located. Batten allegedly admitted to smoking marijuana prior to the traffic stop. He reportedly showed measurable impairment on field sobriety testing, but a PBT and Datamaster showed no alcohol in his system. A DRE evaluation concluded that Batten was unable to operate his vehicle safely.
A urine sample was collected for testing.
Batten was charged with OWI first offense, marijuana possession, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to have liability insurance. He faces up to 25 months in jail if convicted on all counts.
