Governor Kim Reynolds will be in Cedar Rapids today to attend the groundbreaking for the largest project in Cedar Rapids history.

QTS is building a $750 million –plus data center in the Big Cedar Industrial Park; Google is also building a $576 million data center in the Park as well.

QTS senior leadership will be in Cedar Rapids along with the governor and other leaders to recognize the start of construction on the QTS site.

Google’s data center, which held its own groundbreaking ceremonies in May, will be used to support the company operations. The Gazette reports the QTS facility will be somewhat different because its center will be used or leased by another company or companies. QTS, which operates more than 75 data centers in the United States and Europe, has declined to comment on who will use its Cedar Rapids facility.

Both projects are expected to employ hundreds for their construction.
