North Liberty man faces multiple charges stemming from domestic incident

A North Liberty man was charged after a domestic incident Monday morning.

According to police, 20-year-old Martell McWilliams of the North Liberty Park Apartments  and the victim, who also lives in the complex, were involved in a verbal confrontation inside of the victim’s residence.  During the incident, McWilliams allegedly struck the woman, who is pregnant with his child,  in the right eye. He also was accused of breaking a 60-inch TV.

Police on scene also reportedly observed him put his hands around the woman’s throat. When they tried to pull McWilliams off the victim, he reportedly ignored their commands and actively resisted.

When interviewed, McWilliams allegedly admitted to breaking the TV.

He was taken into custody and charged with Domestic Abuse Assault causing Injury, Assault with Intent to cause Injury, Interference with Official Acts, and 5th degree Criminal Mischief.  If convicted on all counts, McWilliams could face up to 15 months in jail.
