An investigation by Iowa City Police has determined that a registered sex offender was living with children in an apartment with drugs present.
38-year-old Donald Wood was arrested just after 9:45 Thursday night on Meade Drive in North Liberty after he allegedly ran from officers trying to serve a warrant and hid in a dumpster.
Wood was wanted after Iowa City Police allege they found him living with two minor children on Cross Park Avenue when they executed a search warrant related to a narcotics investigation last January. Investigators say the children are not his and he is not the spouse of their guardian.
Further investigation determined that Wood, a registered sex offender, had failed to report his Snapchat account, three email accounts, vehicle access or his current phone number to authorities.
Wood has a previous sex offender registry violation conviction from Webster County in 2022. He now faces two new counts of that charge, as well as one count of Interference With Official Acts. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of over ten years in prison.
Wood also faces numerous felony drug charges.
