Iowa City Police have arrested a suspect they say was getting into fights and yelling racial slurs downtown.
Officers responded to numerous reports throughout the day Friday of 47-year-old Bradley Pechman of North Johnson Street fighting another male on the Ped Mall. Pechman was eventually located near the intersection of Dubuque and Washington Streets just before 5:15 p.m. He was allegedly in possession of a bottle of vodka and showed signs of intoxication.
Police say Pechman had been screaming racial slurs…including the n-word…while walking around without a shirt. He reportedly physically resisted being taken into custody, and at one point allegedly told an officer he would find him and put a bullet in his head…all while yelling more racial slurs.
Pechman is charged with 1st Degree Harassment, Interference With Official Acts, Disorderly Conduct, and Public Intoxication. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of 27 months in jail.
