An Iowa City restaurant employee is accused of stealing hundreds of dollars from her employer’s vehicle while they were both on-duty.

According to arrest reports, 46-year-old Georgia Wetjen was working as a server at The Sanctuary on South Gilbert Street just before 7:00 on the night of July 24th when she took the keys to her employer’s truck, went outside to the parking lot, and removed $560 from a purse located inside the vehicle before returning the keys.

Iowa City Police say Wetjen admitted to taking the money, although she claimed she only took $380 and returned $360.

Wetjen has since been charged with 3rd Degree Burglary of a Motor Vehicle – 2nd or Subsequent Offense and 4th Degree Theft. She has multiple previous burglary convictions dating back to 2015.

If convicted on the latest charges, Wetjen faces a maximum of six years in prison.
