A Cedar Rapids man stopped for speeding in University Heights faces felony charges after reportedly being found with drugs and a firearm.
Daniel Galloway was stopped on the 500 block of Summit Street just after 8pm Friday, his 23rd birthday, for going 12 miles per hour faster than the posted 25 miles per hour speed limit. Upon contact, the officer noticed the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle, and a probable cause search was launched.
Two baggies of marijuana were allegedly found, weighing over 126 grams in total, along with additional marijuana cartridges. A prescription bottle with the label ripped off containing three pills was also reportedly discovered.
Galloway also had a handgun in the vehicle, which is not allowed while possessing illegal substances.
He was taken into custody and charged with a Controlled Substance violation, failure to affix drug stamp, Illegal Possession of a Prescription Drug, and Person Ineligible to Carry Dangerous Weapons. If convicted on all counts, Gillespie could be sentenced to a maximum 12 years in prison.
