The Iowa State Patrol has identified the driver involved in a wrong-way accident Sunday night on Interstate 80.
The official crash report indicates just before 9:30 48-year-old Brian Butler of Norwalk was driving a Nissan Altima eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-80 between the Rochester Avenue and West Branch exits when he struck a Lexus being driven by 34-year-old Pengjie Shang of North Liberty. Several other vehicles were involved in the crash as well.
Butler was airlifted to University of Iowa Health Care on Hawkins Drive. Shang, 32-year-old Baoyue Guo of North Liberty, 57-year-old Larry Station of Cedar Rapids, 67-year-old Rai Stratton of Cedar Rapids, 33-year-old Alex Mendoza of Muscatine, 50-year-old Jaime Zuniga-Terrrazas of Muscatine, and a five-year-old were also taken to UIHC. Guo and the child were transported via Aircare.
The incident shut down all lanes of I-80 until about 3 a.m. The investigation is ongoing.
