A Lisbon man was arrested early Monday morning after allegedly getting into a running vehicle in downtown Iowa City and causing an accident.

Police say 19-year-old Blake Stejskal of Novak Road got into a black Chevy Impala, unoccupied and running, near the intersection of Washington and Clinton Street at 1:24am. He reportedly put the car in neutral or reverse and jumped out while it was moving.

The Chevy crashed into a pedestrian control device, damaging the vehicle and the device.  Total damage was estimated at $2000.

Stejskal was allegedly intoxicated, and was observed with bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech, and the odor of ingested alcohol.  He reportedly admitted to drinking and showed impairment on field tests. A Datamaster test showed his breath-alcohol level at .167 percent.

Stejskal was charged with Operating a Vehicle without Owner Consent, 2nd degree Criminal Mischief, and OWI first offense. He could be sentenced to eight years in prison if convicted on all counts.
