A member of the Des Moines school board and former high school teacher officially launched her campaign for the U.S. Senate.
Jackie Norris joins Zach Wahls, JD Scholten and Nathan Sage in the field of Democrats vying for Senator Joni Ernst’s Senate seat.
Norris previously worked on Tom Vilsack’s 1998 campaign and Barack Obama’s 2008 Iowa caucus efforts. She has served in both Democratic and Republican administrations, including a stint as chief of staff for former First Lady Michelle Obama.
CBS2 reports Norris will run on issues including expanding affordable preschool , improving mental health services in schools, and modernizing education with career-focused programs like apprenticeships. She also plans to address economic concerns.
Reacting to the announcement. Iowa GOP Chair Jeff Kaufmann called her “another out-of-touch political insider looking to pad her radical resume with a Senate run.”
The primary will take place June 2, 2026.
