A two year study on Iowa water quality were revealed at a Monday meeting in Des Moines.
The research, done by the Markin Institute and Drake University, found that big cities and farming are contributing to the worsening of water quality. The study also showed Iowa has some of the highest nitrate levels in the nation, levels frequently over EPA standards.
University of Iowa professor Jerald Schnoor said recent studies show that there may be health effects at much lower concentrations as well.
CBS2 reports the group in charge of the meeting stated the state is about to cut three-quarters of its nitrate monitoring program.
