Gov. Kim Reynolds is directing the Iowa National Guard to assist U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Reynolds says in a news release that the assistance was requested by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
The immigration enforcement effort will begin on September 8th. Twenty Iowa National Guard soldiers will provide administrative and logistical support to Iowa-based ICE officials in enforcing immigration laws. The current authorization is approved by the Secretary of Defense through November 15th.
