An Iowa City woman arrested for her third OWI over the weekend reportedly had a dangerous breath-alcohol level.

52-year-old Sally Bowers of North Summit Street was stopped on the 100 block of West Forevergreen Road in North Liberty at around 10:30pm Sunday for not having functional taillights.  Upon contact, she allegedly had bloodshot watery eyes and a strong odor of ingested alcohol.

Bowers performed poorly on field testing and consented to chemical testing. After a PBT showed her over the legal limit to drive, she consented to a Datamaster test, showing her breath-alcohol level at .303 percent.

A check of Bowers’ driving record showed OWI convictions in 2019 and 2023. She was charged with OWI third offense, a Class D Felony punishable by a prison term of up to five years if convicted.
