A Marengo man was arrested overnight after an alleged domestic incident at his home.

Authorities were called to a residence on reports of a possible domestic at around 1am. Upon arrival,  a sheriff’s deputy spoke with the victim, who stated that 40-year-old Eric Brecht of West South Street was intoxicated and choked her three different times. The woman stated that she couldn’t breathe and was in fear for her life.  Brecht also reportedly held a taser to the woman’s neck and threatened to use it on her.

Brecht allegedly admitted to head-butting the victim, and had a visible mark on his forehead.  He also admitted to having several Busch Lights and being angry because the woman was moving out.

Two children were in the residence at the time of the incident. Brecht submitted to a PBT showing his breath-alcohol level at .163 percent.

Brecht was charged with Domestic Abuse Assault impeding Airflow, Domestic Abuse Assault with use of a Weapon, and two counts of Child Endangerment. He faces a prison term of up to eight years if convicted on all charges.  A no-contact order was requested between the couple.
