An Iowa City man was arrested Wednesday morning after allegedly using a sword on his longtime spouse.
According to the police report, 72-year-old Timothy Bassler was waiting outside their Langenberg Avenue residence with a large antique sword as his wife returned from work to change vehicles. He then allegedly approached the woman and struck her with the hilt on the top of her head, causing a large laceration.
The couple have been married for around 36 years.
Bassler was taken into custody and charged with Domestic Abuse Assault with the Use of a Weapon, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by up to two years in jail. A no-contact order was requested.
