A Muscatine man was arrested this week in regards to a theft incident that occurred earlier this year.
Police say that on the afternoon of June 13th, 25-year-old Kenneth McCarty of Logan Street was observed by loss prevention personnel at Scheel’s in the Coral Ridge Mall selecting several items off the shelves and placing them on the stroller he was pushing. An officer was told that McCarty allegedly concealed the items in the stroller before exiting the store without paying for the items.
The value of the items reportedly taken exceeded $580.00.
A warrant for McCarty’s arrest was issued July 28th; he was served Monday and charged with 4th degree theft. He was released on his own recognizance at his initial court appearance pending arraignment.
If convicted on the charge, McCarty could be sentenced to up to a year in jail.
