An area transient wanted for contempt earlier this week for meeting with the subject of a no-contact order issued against him in early July  was arrested after allegedly assaulting her Thursday.

At around 4:25pm Monday, 28-year-old Matthew Mark was seen at the Iowa City Public Library on Linn Street with a woman with whom he has a no-contact order.  Court records show that Mark had been cited three previous times for violating the order. A warrant for his arrest was issued the next day.

Then on Thursday afternoon, police were called to the library again by the woman involved in the no-contact order. She alleged that Mark hit her in the mouth, causing it to bleed.  She also reportedly had a red mark on her left side from the struggle, which apparently was over a cell phone.

Mark was taken into custody and cited for contempt again, along with domestic abuse assault and assault against a person against whom a no-contact order was issued. He faces a prison sentence of over five years if convicted on all counts.
