The case of an 11-year-old girl who disappeared 29 years ago in the Quad Cities has been solved, and a man has been arrested for her murder.
WQAD TV reports a grand jury in Henry County, Illinois, indicted 50-year-old Jamison Fisher of East Moline on Wednesday for the murder of Trudy Appleby. He faces three counts of first-degree murder and one count of concealment of a homicidal death. According to Henry County State’s Attorney Catherine Runty, Fisher is accused of strangling Trudy.
Rock Island County State’s Attorney Dora Villarreal said there is evidence pointing to Trudy being kidnapped, but due to the statute of limitations, they were not able to charge Fisher. The other charges were not affected by the statute of limitations.
The 11 year old was last seen leaving her family’s home in Moline on August 21 1996. She reportedly was seen getting into a grey vehicle with an unidentified man. Authorities say she asked her father if she could go swimming with a friend but he said no. The girl apparently decided to go anyway.
Appleby’s remains have not been recovered.
Fisher was named a person of interest in 2020. He is being held in the Scott County Jail in Davenport on unrelated charges from last month and will remain pending further court proceedings.
