A suspect in an Iowa City stabbing case has been given credit for time served.
Online court records show 36-year-old Lacey Bode of Iowa City reached a deal with prosecutors last month. Iowa City Police say just after 1:15 on the morning of October 27th, 2024 officers were standing in the 200 block of South Van Buren Street when they were notified of a stabbing that occurred at the Haven…formerly known as H Bar. Two victims were taken to the hospital for treatment.
The first victim was six months pregnant and had a stab wound to her stomach. She told police she tried to walk behind the bar when Bode began to push her. The woman told Bode not to touch her because she was pregnant, but Bode allegedly pulled out a knife and repeatedly tried to stab her.
The second victim stated she jumped between the two and, during a subsequent scuffle, reportedly had her face sliced open and received a small cut to her leg. The facial wound required stitches.
Bode was charged with Going Armed with Intent, Assault While Displaying a Dangerous Weapon on a Pregnant Person, Assault with the Use of a Weapon, and two counts of Willful Injury Causing Bodily Injury. If convicted on all counts, she could have been sentenced to up to 22 years in prison.
Judge Brandon Schrock dismissed all but the Assault with the Use of a Weapon charge and sentenced Bode to 200 days in jail with credit for time served.
