The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of a man they arrested following the execution of a search warrant in Tiffin that some witnesses believed to be a raid from Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The sheriff’s office says in a news release that just before 8 a.m. the Johnson County Drug Task Force, in cooperation with the Muscatine County Drug Task Force and with assistance from the Iowa State Patrol, executed a search warrant at 480 Roberts Ferry Road in Tiffin related to a narcotics investigation. Because some of the officers involved were in plain clothes and were driving unmarked vehicles, some witnesses began posting on social media that ICE was involved.

The sheriff’s office says the incident was not an immigration raid and ICE was not involved. It adds that Drug Task Force members routinely wear plain clothes and drive unmarked police vehicles due to the nature of their work.

Arrest records released Tuesday morning indicate the Roberts Ferry Road residence is the home of 57-year-old Mark Pereda, who allegedly sold 30 fentanyl pills weighing 4.1 grams during a controlled purchase near the intersection of State and Stephans Streets in Tiffin on July 2nd. He was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 11:30 Monday morning and charged with a Controlled Substance Violation. If convicted, he could spend up to ten years in prison.
