Coralville Police have arrested a suspect they say used his cousin’s name to sign a citation last year.
21-year-old Kevin Mendez Marques of 4th Avenue was booked into the Johnson County Jail at 10:30 Tuesday morning. According to arrest records, just before 2:45 a.m. on February 8th, 2024 Mendez Marquez was taken into custody for traffic offenses and a .02% violation. He allegedly gave his cousin’s name to the arresting officer, and signed the same name to the citations once at the Coralville Police station. Investigators learned of the reported deception when the alleged vicitm attempted to apply for a driver’s license.
Mendez Marquez is now charged with Tampering With Records and Malicious Prosecution. If convicted on both counts, he faces a maximum of three years in jail.
Records from the Johnson County Jail show a detainer has been placed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
