An area transient was arrested last week after allegedly stepping out in front of a squad car and fighting with officers.

Iowa City Police were at the intersection of South Riverside Drive and McCollister Boulevard Wednesday evening at approximately 9:27pm when 32-year-old Taylor Evans reportedly stepped out in front of their squad car, impeding traffic.  Upon contact, Evans allegedly would not stop and attempted to walk away.  She refused commands to stop, and pulled away when grabbed by an officer. She reportedly had to be taken to the ground, and fought handcuffing by putting her arms under her body and thrashing her legs.

A search incident to arrest found a glass smoking pipe on her person, typically used for meth use.

Evans was charged with Disorderly Conduct-Obstructing Street, Interference with Official Acts, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. If convicted on all counts, she could be sentenced to up to 14 months in jail.
