A Coralville man was arrested over the weekend after allegedly trying to choke his domestic partner.

Police were called to the 6th Avenue address of the victim Saturday just after 5pm, where 49-year-old George Jackson of the Lodge Apartments on the Coralville Strip allegedly approached her and reached for her neck in view of witnesses.  The witnesses heard the woman say, “You’re not going to choke me.”

Jackson reportedly held the victim against the ground and there was screaming and yelling by both parties.

Officers on scene observed the victim with redness, scratch marks and bruising on the left side of her neck. Both Jackson and the victim were uncooperative with police.

A check of criminal records showed Jackson with two previous convictions for Domestic Assault from 2022 and 2023.

Jackson was taken into custody and charged with Domestic Abuse Assault 3rd or subsequent offense, and Domestic Abuse Assault impeding Airflow. He faces a prison sentence of up to ten years if convicted.
