The West Liberty Police Department is investigating the drowning of a child.
Just before noon on Monday officers were dispatched to a residence located in the 500 block of East 1st Street following a 9-1-1 call reporting an unresponsive child. Upon arrival, West Liberty Police and West Liberty Fire and EMS personnel located a one-year-old child who had been found unresponsive in a backyard swimming pool.
The child’s identity is not being released at this time. The investigation remains ongoing by the West Liberty Police Department in coordination with the Johnson County Medical Examiner’s Office.
