Meghann Foster announced on social media Thursday night that she will not seek reelection as Coralville’s mayor and is instead running for the Iowa Senate.
She is running for Senate District 43. Zach Wahls is the current Senator; he’s running for the US Senate seat currently occupied by Joni Ernst.
Foster said in her Facebook post that being mayor and holding local office is the most difficult type of office to hold, and it’s become harder, quote, “given the cruel and relentless attacks we are seeing from Republican leadership in our state…I’m heartbroken and angry about what is happening and I’m ready to bring my voice to the fight in Des Moines.”
Foster said a formal campaign launch and announcement will come later.
