A rural Johnson County man is accused of trying to break into an Iowa City apartment while threatening the resident, then fighting with police.

Iowa City Police were called to The Quarters on Highway 6 East just before 12:45 Saturday morning for a reported domestic dispute. Arriving officers say 22-year-old Cameron Neuzil of James Avenue was attempting to break into a residence.  The alleged victim showed investigators video of Neuzil trying to break in. He also reportedly threatened to break the woman’s window with his bike and assault her if she didn’t let him in. When the woman told Neuzil she was calling the police, he allegedly said he would break in and beat her up before they could arrive.

Police say Neuzil showed signs of intoxication. He reportedly resisted being taken into custody, including falling to the ground and kicking and biting at officers. Once inside the squad car, Neuzil allegedly kicked the partition during the entire trip to the Johnson County Jail. Once at the jail, he reportedly threatened to assault any of the officers at that moment and if he saw any them out of uniform later.

Neuzil is charged with Attempted 3rd Degree Burglary, Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations, 1st Degree Harassment, Interference With Official Acts, Public Intoxication, and two counts of Harassment of a Public Official. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of over four years in jail.
