Iowa City man facing prison time after cocaine possession

An Iowa City man who was a passenger in a stolen vehicle was arrested after a search turned up cocaine in his possession.

The vehicle was stopped Saturday at around 9:10pm on 1st Avenue 56-year-old Robert Bryant of Hollywood Court was allegedly found to be in possession of a baggie containing a white powdery substance.  An additional baggie was located under Bryant’s seat.  Field tests reportedly identified to substance as cocaine.  The two baggies allegedly contained about 30 grams of the substance.

Bryant was taken to the Johnson County Jail,  where he was found with an additional corner tear baggie of cocaine stuffed into his sock.

Bryant was charged with a Class C Controlled Substance violation, Failure to Affix Drug Stamp, and Possession of Contraband in a Correctional Institution.  If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to a maximum 20 years in prison.
