A Marion man was arrested early Sunday after allegedly displaying a weapon during an incident on the Iowa City Ped Mall.
According to police, 20-year-old Levi Heinzerling of Antler Court got into a verbal altercation with a group of people around 2:30 am. Witnesses stated he displayed a firearm during the incident. Officers located Heinzerling a short time later and reportedly found a 9mm handgun in his waistband.
He was allegedly observed with bloodshot watery eyes, and the odor of ingested alcohol. Heinzerling reportedly admitted to drinking prior to being stopped by police, but refused field or chemical sobriety testing.
He was charged with Disorderly Conduct, Person Ineligible to carry Dangerous Weapons, Public Intoxication, and Possession of Dangerous Weapons while Intoxicated. Heinzerling could be sentenced to up to 26 months in jail if convicted on all counts.
