An Iowa City woman who caused a disturbance at a downtown bar now faces time behind bars.

According to the police report, 25-year-old Nathalie Alvarado of North Dodge Street was at Joe’s Place late Monday night and reportedly didn’t have the money to pay for her drinks.  Issues with staff and other patrons allegedly escalated to the point where she reportedly slapped an individual across the face.

Police noted Alvarado had bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech, impaired balance, smelled of alcohol, and admitted to drinking earlier in the night.  A post-arrest PBT showed her breath-alcohol level at .184 percent.  A search incident to arrest allegedly found a THC Vape pen and a pipe containing a white powdery substance.

Alvarado was charged with marijuana possession, a controlled substance violation, simple assault, and public intoxication. If convicted on all counts, she could be sentenced to up to 26 months in jail.
