A Texas man faces prison time after allegedly being involved in a wallet theft from an Iowa City restaurant.
Police say just before 2am, 25-year-old Kyle Blair of Houston and a friend were drinking at Pop’s BBQ on North Dubuque Street with a woman. The friend reportedly grabbed the woman’s wallet and started to go through it. The woman intervened and took the wallet back, but Blair allegedly grabbed the wallet from her and started to walk away.
The woman grabbed onto Blair to try to stop him from leaving, but he reportedly shoved her off him and ran out the front door. The incident was caught on surveillance video.
The woman stated that there was $600 in cash in the wallet Blair stole from her.
Police caught up with Blair, and he allegedly admitted to stealing the woman’s wallet and taking the money inside. He gave the cash, totaling approximately $250, to the officers.
Blair reportedly had bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech and had the odor of ingested alcohol. His post arrest PBT showed a breath-alcohol level at .102 percent.
Blair was charged with 2nd degree Robbery and Public Intoxication. If convicted on both counts, he faces a maximum prison term of over ten years.
