The City of Oxford has released a statement addressing recent water quality issues.
The city posted on its official Facebook page Saturday that officials were aware of the situation, and public works staff was dispatched Saturday to flush various fire hydrants throughout the city to speed up the process of resolving the issue.
City officials stress the water is still safe to drink, although it may temporarily have an orange hue. Washing light colored or white laundry is NOT recommended while the water is discolored. If laundry becomes stained, do NOT dry the laundry, but instead add the product “Iron Out” into the washing machine and rewash the laundry.
In some cases, running an outside faucet can eliminate any discolored water in water lines.
