An Iowa City woman arrested for OWI last week reportedly had a dangerous breath-alcohol level.

A sheriff’s deputy received a report Tuesday morning that 43-year-old Letty Meade of Red Maple Trail NE had been in a confrontation with someone near Prairie Du Chen Road. The reporting party said that Meade yelled at him and alleged that she was driving while intoxicated. She reportedly had left the scene by the time authorities arrived.

Meade was eventually located driving south on Prairie Du Chen Road and made contact with her after she turned and came to a stop.  She was allegedly noticeably intoxicated and admitted to drinking immediately prior to the stop.  After failing field sobriety tests, Meade agreed to a Datamaster test reportedly showing her breath-alcohol level at .320 percent.

Persons with breath-alcohol levels over .3 percent can experience alcohol poisoning and loss of consciousness.

Meade was charged with first offense OWI, a serious misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail if convicted.
