Johnson County flags are at half-staff today in remembrance of those who died in the 9/11 attacks on this date in 2001…but they could be back up as soon as Friday.

Both President Donald Trump and Governor Kim Reynolds ordered all flags at federal and state government facilities to fly at half-staff today to mark the anniversary of the terrorist attacks. But later statements from both Trump and Reynolds called for the flags to be kept down through sunset on Sunday in honor of Charlie Kirk, the conservative activist who was shot and killed on Wednesday on the campus of Utah Valley University.

But late Wednesday night, Johnson County Supervisor Jon Green posted a screencap on his Bluesky account of an email he sent to county elected officials and department heads indicating county flags will fly at half-staff today for the 9/11 anniversary, then added, “Further guidance will be forthcoming.”

Green then calls for keeping all victims of gun violence in mind, including the Colorado students who were killed in a school shooting on Wednesday.
