A Cedar Rapids man was charged with his first OWI after allegedly being found with a dangerous level of alcohol in his system Wednesday afternoon.
38-year-old Luiz Lumbi-Jimenez of 4th Avenue SW was called in on the 900 block of West Penn Street in North Liberty at approximately 12:41 pm as a reckless driver. Upon contact, he reportedly showed a strong odor of consumed alcohol, and Lumbi-Jimenez allegedly admitted to drinking heavily the night before.
After showing numerous clues of impairment on field sobriety tests, he agreed to a PBT, which showed his breath-alcohol level at .323 percent, over four times the legal limit. A subsequent Datamaster showed a lower level but still impaired, at .277 percent.
Lumbi-Jiminez was charged with a serious misdemeanor and can be jailed for up to a year if convicted.
