Additional candidates have filed nomination papers with the County Auditor’s office for Coralville City Council and mayoral races.

The Coralville City Council is made up of five at-large council members and a non-voting mayor. Council members serve staggered four-year terms, and the mayor serves a two-year term.

Earlier this year, Mayor Meghann Foster announced she would not seek re-election, and is running for a State Representative seat. Councilors Hai Hyunh, Mike Knudson and Laurie Goodrich are up for re-election; Goodrich has filed to run for Mayor. The Gazette reports She will face off against Ryan Swenka, a software trainer, who has launched his first mayoral campaign.

Hyunh has indicated she will run for another Council term, while Knudson has not filed for re-election yet. Self-employed furniture designer Katie Freeman has filed to run for a city council seat. She and Swenka are campaigning together, with an event planned for today.

Other prospective for city and school board candidates in the county have until 5 p.m. Thursday to file for candidacy with the Johnson County Auditor’s Office, with the exception of Iowa City and University Heights, whose deadlines have passed.
