An Iowa City man accused of paying a teenager for sex has been given a pair of five-year prison sentences.
Iowa City Police say between June 1st and August 31st of last year 42-year-old Pablo Mejia Aguilar befriended a 14-year-old girl and began paying her $100 each time she would perform sex acts on him. The two allegedly met 13 different times. The reported meetings took place at various locations around Johnson County, including vacant apartments where Mejia Aguilar was doing remodeling.
A police search of the girl’s bedroom reportedly turned up over $1,100 in cash as well as alcohol and marijuana Mejia Aguilar is accused of providing to her.
Mejia Aguilar, who lists his address as a suite in a Dolphin Drive industrial park, had faced 13 counts of 3rd Degree Sexual Abuse, 13 counts of Prostitution of a Minor, and one count of Drug Distribution to a Minor. If convicted on all charges, he would have faced a maximum prison sentence of 220 years.
Online records now show Mejia Aguilar reached a plea deal earlier this month, and Judge David Cox sentenced him to five-year sentences on two of the prostitution charges. The other counts were all dropped. Mejia Aguilar was also fined $2,050 and must submit his DNA to the state.
