A homeless man is accused of threatening another person with a multi-tool.
Iowa City Police say just before 6:15 Wednesday night 43-year-old Abdiqani Haji Mohamud was involved in a verbal altercation outside 501 Southgate Avenue when he pulled out a multi-tool with several tools exposed and threatened to use it as a weapon against the other subject. A glass meth pipe was reportedly found in Haji Mohamud ‘s sock upon his arrest.
Once at the Johnson County Jail, a baggie of a white, powdery substance was allegedly found in Haji Mohamud’s other sock. He’s now charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance – 3rd or Subsequent Offense, Possession of Contraband in a Correctional Institution, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Disorderly Conduct. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of over ten years in prison.
Haji Mohamud has a lengthy criminal history. Last year, he was sentenced to one day in jail after reportedly threatening another transient with a hatchet on the 400 block of Highway 1 West.
