A transient faces charges that he knocked another person into unconsciousness outside an Iowa City convenience store.
28-year-old Eric Guise was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 10:15 Saturday night. Iowa City Police say Guise was involved in a verbal altercation in the parking lot of GM Mart on Highway 6 East at 6:45 on the night of September 10th when someone tried to separate the two. Guise then reportedly took a fighting stance and punched that person in the face, knocking him unconscious. Guise fled the scene before police could arrive.
Police were again called to GM Mart for a trespassing issue involving Guise just before 10:15 Saturday night. Arriving officers say he was non-compliant and rambling. He allegedly refused to put his phone down when asked, physically resisted handcuffing, and had to be dragged to the squad car. Multiple baggies of what is believed to be methamphetamine were found on his person.
Guise is charged with Disorderly Conduct, Interference With Official Acts, and Possession of a Controlled Substance. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of 14 months in jail.
Guise has multiple previous assault convictions on his criminal record.
