An Iowa City man was taken into custody on a warrant stemming from a bicycle theft earlier this summer.

Police say the incident involved 33-year-old Shadoe Van Damme of Michael Street.  According to court records, Van Damme removed a bicycle valued between $750 and $1500 from the bike rack on the east side of the Robert A Lee Recreation Center the afternoon of August 6th.  He then allegedly rode the bike away from the location and did not return it.

A warrant was issued August 8th and Van Damme remained at large until he was served last week. He now faces a charge of 3rd degree theft and could be sentenced to up to two years in jail if convicted.
