The City of Iowa City is seeking input from its citizens regarding improvements to the Burlington Street Bridge area.

According to a release from the city, a planning study for the Burlington Street Bridge – Building Better Connections project, is currently underway, and will ultimately provide improved infrastructure in Downtown Iowa City, near the University of Iowa power plant, between Riverside Drive and south Madison Street.

A public meeting is scheduled for this Thursday from 5-7pm at City Hall and will feature a presentation at 5:15 p.m. Feedback on proposed conceptual alternatives for four key areas of the project, including Burlington Street Bridge, roadway and trail crossings, west campus, and the Burlington Street dam is welcomed. The study team will be available before and after the presentation to answer any questions.

The Burlington Street Bridge – Building Better Connections planning project will replace the Burlington Street east and westbound bridges with a single bridge, provide improvements to Burlington Street, Grand Avenue, Melrose Avenue, and Byington Road, assess ways to improve the bridge and adjacent roadways to better accommodate vehicle, bus, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic, evaluate pedestrian connections and repair or replace the pedestrian bridges over Riverside Drive and Grand Avenue, and assess the existing Iowa River dam for potential modifications.

In addition, an online survey is open on the city’s website through Friday October 10th.  A link to the survey is available with this story on the KCJJ app and at 1630 KCJJ dot com.
