An Iowa City man has been charged after an alleged weekend assault on the mother of their shared child.

The incident reportedly occurred Sunday afternoon at the Briar Drive residence of 33-year-old Dwight Davis.  He allegedly got into an argument with his live-in girlfriend and pushed her face back, causing a fat and bloody lip.

The woman called 911, and Davis heard her saying his name. He then reportedly grabbed her phone and broke it.

Davis was charged with Domestic Abuse Assault causing Injury and Obstruction of Emergency Communications. He could be sentenced to up to 13 months in jail if convicted on both counts.
