Cedar Rapids Police make arrest in shots fired incident

Cedar Rapids Police have made an arrest in a shots fired incident.

According to a release from the city, 41-year-old Toby Smith and several others engaged in a verbal disturbance Tuesday night at approximately 8:40p.m. on the 1500 block of K Street SW, culminating in Smith discharging a firearm in the vicinity of several individuals.

Officers patrolling the area nearby heard the shots, located the disturbance, and after interviews, arrested  Smith.

He was taken to the Linn County Jail and charged with:
-Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon x 4
-Assault with a Dangerous Weapon x 2
-Assault Going Armed with Intent
-Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
-Person Ineligible to Carry Weapons
-Control of Firearm by Felon
-Reckless Use of Firearm

If convicted on all charges, Smith could be sentenced to over 57 years in prison. He posted bond and was released to the custody of the Department of Correctional Services ahead of future court dates.
