An arrest has been made in connection with a four-year-old Iowa City shots fired incident.
Iowa City Police have been investigating an incident where a firearm was discharged near the intersection of Broadway Street and Apple Court just after 12:45 on the afternoon of April 26th, 2021.
A suspect in the case, 33-year-old Devon Freeman of Chicago, was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 8:00 Friday night. Police say Freeman fired four rounds and fled the scene, leaving his cellphone behind next to four spent shell cases and one live round. Freeman is reportedly the only person seen on video fleeing the scene. The incident began as a verbal altercation at a nearby gas station.
The firearm was later recovered from a vehicle Freeman was driving. He has numerous felony convictions outside of Iowa, and is thus ineligible to carry a firearm.
Freeman is now charged with Dominion or Control of a Firearm as a Felon. If convicted, he faces a maximum of five years in prison.
Freeman was also wanted for allegedly having marijuana in his car during a 2021 traffic stop outside his former Cross Park Avenue apartment.
