An Iowa City man faces jail time after an alleged assault against another man last month.
According to the incident report, 30-year-old Elijah Banwart was at HyVee Fast and Fresh on the Coralville Strip the evening of September 22nd when he assaulted the victim by grabbing and hitting his face. During the assault, he allegedly grabbed the victim’s glasses off his face and crushed them in his hands.
The glasses were valued between $300 and $400. The incident was reportedly captured on security video.
Banwart was charged with Assault causing Bodily Injury and 4th degree Criminal Mischief. If convicted on both counts, he could be sentenced to up to two years in jail.
