An Iowa City man was taken into custody after allegedly assaulting his wife of two years.
According to the arrest report, 30-year-old Gage Olson and his spouse got into an argument Saturday night that was continued as they went into the downstairs area of the residence. The two were reportedly talking face to face when she got scared and retreated to the other side of the couch. Olson then allegedly jumped over the couch and took her to the ground. He reportedly held her by the throat to the point where she said she couldn’t breathe and thought she was going to die. She told police she tried to yell for help but couldn’t speak.
The woman was able to get away from Olson and started upstairs, but he allegedly grabbed her leg, drug her away and held her down. During the incident, Olson’s wife suffered a cut to her forehead, bloody lips, pain to her throat, an abrasion to the left side of her neck, and severe pain in the left shoulder.
Olson was arrested and charged with Domestic Abuse Assault impeding Airflow and Domestic Abuse Assault causing Injury. If convicted on both counts, he could face a prison sentence of up to three years.
