Iowa City Police made a handful of arrests Saturday night after observing individuals smoking marijuana in public.

Officers were on foot outside Tequila Cowgirl on South Gilbert Street at 11:30pm and reportedly observed 23-year-old Ronald Boston of Davenport standing in line to get into the bar, smoking a marijuana blunt.  He was taken into custody and allegedly found with more marijuana on his person in a search incident to arrest. Boston faces a possession charge punishable by up to a year in jail if convicted.

A half-hour later, officers were patrolling the area again and reportedly observed 30-year-old Elijah Green of Des Moines and 31-year-old Brittany Floyd of Dubuque standing on the sidewalk smoking a blunt and passing it back and forth between each other right in front of police. Green was asked for his ID and he tried to walk away.  He was allegedly found with a THC dab pen, and had the strong odor of ingested alcohol.  Green also reportedly had Fireball shooters in his pockets. He refused testing.
Green faces a third or subsequent possession charge and one count of public intoxication. He could be sentenced to over five years in prison if convicted. Floyd was charged with possession, a serious misdemeanor.

Then in the 1am hour Sunday, an officer was patrolling the area north of Washington Street and observed 51-year-old Zanetta Hill and a male subject passing a smoking device back and forth.  Hill reportedly took possession of the device and tried to conceal it.  Upon contact, the officer reported the odor of marijuana coming from the two suspects. Hill reportedly turned over the smoking device to officers. A search of her purse incident to arrest allegedly turned up a small baggie of suspected marijuana. Hill was charged with possession, and could face up to a year in jail if convicted.
