The Linn County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the elderly man who died in a house fire over the weekend.
Multiple law enforcement and fire department agencies responded to a report of a house fire on Olson Court in Fairfax at 2.24am Sunday.
Responders arrived to find the house fully engulfed and a report of an elderly man who was unable to escape the blaze. The homeowners, identified as David and Nancy Olson, were taken to a local hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation, and later transported to University of Iowa Health Care. Two other occupants were able to escape unharmed.
Firefighters were able to locate the deceased victim, now identified as 93-year-old Russell Olson.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
